NYC Independent Film Festival – Virgo Spotlight Client – Midtown
Written by virgobc on December 11, 2014 in Spotlight Client
NYC Independent Film Festival is the Spotlight Client of the Month for Virgo Business Centers’ Midtown location. NYC Independent Film Festival is a celebration of the true independent filmmaker, documentaries, short and feature-length films, music videos, and animation. Whether a submission is comedic, dramatic, or something in between, The NYC Indie film Fest is eager to embrace fresh ideas and storytelling.
How many employees does your business have?
Total company 5 to 100 people depending on what you want to count. We have all volunteers. 5 people come to the offices and 100 judges spread around the world.
What are your business specialties?
Film Festival
How would you describe your business?
Started 5 years ago as the Astoria/LIC International Film Festival, moved to the Procurer’s Club and changed our name in 2012 to the NYC Indie Film Festival.
What is the secret to your success?
Hard work and being flexible, listening to our customers and employees.
What is the best part about managing your own business?
LOL!! Not sure there are good parts.
What were your reasons for choosing Virgo Business Centers for your office location?
The location is centrally located. The offices are nicely maintained and the office help are extremely responsive and professional.
How would you describe the experience of having an office in Manhattan?
Being in midtown has definitely been a boost to the festival. The number of submissions increased 300% moving the festival from Astoria/LIC to NYC and has been growing quickly ever since.
What advice would you give to others starting their own businesses?
Being in business for yourself is harder but also a lot easier. As the business owner, you often find yourself doing the jobs nobody else wants to do. But on the other hand, you do what you believe in. As a business owner, in my case the Executive Director, you work harder than you would for someone else. But at least your work is going toward creating something you believe in. Remember that a business is successful because of the people who labor for it as much as what the business does. Someone makes wire hangers and probably makes a very nice living from it. It is more important that you believe in what you are doing than finding the exact perfect business model.
